Embracing Trust: A Journey from Motorcycle to Faith

In our fast-paced world, we often find ourselves caught up in the luxury of convenience, especially when it comes to driving. For years, I enjoyed the comfort of driving a car, but one evening, my wife and I sat down to reevaluate our finances. We were on a quest for cost-saving strategies, and during our discussion, an idea emerged: what if I traded driving a car for riding a simple motorcycle? This felt like a step into the unknown, much like Abraham's call to leave his homeland in Genesis 12:1, trusting in God's promise for a new future.

After some deliberation, we decided to make the leap and purchase a motorcycle. The plan was for me to ride my wife to work in the morning, then return to pick up our two children and drop them off at school. It had been a while since I had ridden a motorcycle, and while I sensed my wife's lingering doubts, her trust in me was unwavering. My children, blissfully unaware of my limited experience, climbed on behind me with complete confidence. Their innocent faith reminded me of the disciples' implicit trust in Jesus as they followed Him.

As we rode off together, I felt a wave of responsibility wash over me. The faith my children had in me was profound; they trusted that I would keep them safe. This experience became a powerful reminder of a deeper truth: just as my children trusted me, I too must cultivate trust in God. This resonates with Psalm 9:10, which says, "Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.

The Lesson of Childlike Faith

Jesus often highlighted the importance of childlike faith. In Matthew 18:3-4, He says, "Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven." Children trust their parents instinctively, believing that they will be taken care of. This unwavering faith is what many of us need in our spiritual lives. To truly believe in God, we must learn to let go of our ego and pride, opening ourselves to a relationship built on trust, much like a child willingly holds the hand of their parent in an unfamiliar place.

When we embrace faith like a child, we acknowledge that we don’t have all the answers. We accept that life is unpredictable, yet we find solace in knowing we are cared for. This kind of trust enriches our spiritual journey, allowing us to experience God's love and presence more fully. The story of the persistent widow in Luke 18:1-8 also illustrates the importance of unwavering faith and trust in God's provision, even when we don't see immediate answers.

Believing in God: The Evidence of His Existence

Consider how children often believe in mystical creatures and magic without a second thought. This innocent faith raises an important question: if they can trust in the unseen, why do we struggle to believe in a God who has created a universe filled with evidence of His existence? Romans 1:20 states, "For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse."

From the intricate design of nature to the vastness of the cosmos, the world around us points to a Creator. Psalm 19:1 declares, "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands." Knowing and trusting that God exists—and that He loves us—requires us to have faith like little children. This faith opens our hearts and minds to the reality of God. It is through this trust that God reveals Himself to us. Just as a child believes in the love of a parent they cannot fully comprehend, we trust in God's love, which surpasses our understanding (Ephesians 3:19).

Without faith, it becomes nearly impossible to know God and develop a personal relationship with Him. Hebrews 11:6 tells us, "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him." Just as children trust their parents to care for them, we must trust God to guide us, nourish us (Matthew 6:26), and reveal His presence in our lives.

A Call to Trust

As I rode my motorcycle that day, I realized the importance of trust, not just in my ability to navigate safely, but in the divine care that surrounds us all. In moments of uncertainty, we can choose to trust God, just as our children trust us. This is echoed in Isaiah 41:10: "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

Embracing this childlike faith transforms our relationship with God, encouraging us to lean into His love and guidance. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us to "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

So, as you navigate your own life, whether on two wheels or four, remember the power of trust. Allow it to guide you, inspire you, and deepen your faith. Just as my children trusted their father, let us all strive to trust our Heavenly Father with the same unshakeable confidence, knowing that He is faithful in all He does (Psalm 145:13).

Yours dearly, Rumishael
