The question of God's existence has sparked endless debates and struggles throughout history. Many people have proposed various arguments, but how can we humbly and thoughtfully approach this profound subject? A good starting point is the Bible, the primary way God has made Himself known to humanity.
When we approach the Bible with a careful and open heart, we often encounter a profound realization: it is not humanity that proves God's existence. Instead, it is God who actively reveals Himself to us. This perspective shifts the focus from our efforts to comprehend the divine to recognizing how the divine seeks a relationship with us. Our attempts to prove or disprove His existence may be fervent, but without His desire to reveal Himself, our efforts can feel futile. Throughout history, humanity has often tried to run away from God. Yet, from the very foundation of the world, it is God who has initiated the relationship with us.
God continues to unveil Himself to humankind. However, to truly know Him, we must cultivate a humble heart and a genuine desire to learn as He reveals Himself. Arrogance will only lead us down fruitless paths. As James 4:6 says, "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." If we earnestly seek to understand Him, He will make Himself known in our lives.
Throughout the scriptures, we see various forms of revelation. From the grandeur of creation to the intimate whispers of the Spirit, God reveals His nature, character, and love. The Bible is not merely a collection of ancient texts; it is a living testament to God’s desire to connect with humanity.
The first chapter of Genesis opens with the powerful declaration that God created the heavens and the earth. This act of creation itself is a revelation. The beauty and intricacy of the world around us speak to the existence of a Creator. The psalmist captures this sentiment beautifully: “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands” (Psalm 19:1).
As we move through the Old Testament, we find that God’s revelation becomes more personal and specific. Through His covenant with Israel, God reveals His intentions and character. The stories of figures like Abraham, Moses, and David illustrate a God who desires to be known and understood. These narratives remind us that God is not distant or aloof; He engages actively in human history.
In the New Testament, the revelation of God reaches its pinnacle in the person of Jesus Christ. The Gospel of John begins with the profound statement, “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us” (John 1:14). Through Jesus, we see God’s love, grace, and truth embodied. His life, death, and resurrection are the ultimate expressions of God’s desire to be in a relationship with humanity.
The journey to knowing God begins with the desire to seek Him. He is not distant or unapproachable; instead, He is available and eager to be known. As Jeremiah 29:13 says, "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." The biblical narrative is filled with instances where it is God who reveals Himself, not the other way around. While we can share our experiences of God’s reality, the most powerful testimonies come when He demonstrates His presence in our lives.
To see and know God, we must first seek Him. As the psalmist writes, "Oh taste and see that the Lord is good" (Psalm 34:8). You cannot share or prove what you do not understand. The choice to believe in God's existence is deeply personal. Faith and belief should stem from your own convictions. God has already shown Himself; now, it is up to you to open your heart to this reality.
While God reveals Himself, our understanding is often clouded by doubt and distraction. Faith plays a crucial role in this journey of revelation. It is through faith that we open our hearts and minds to the divine truths presented in scripture. Jesus often emphasized the importance of faith, as seen in His interactions with His disciples and the crowds.
Whether you choose to believe or not, know that He is present and waiting for you. As the apostle John writes, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16). The journey of faith is yours to embark upon, and the rewards of seeking Him are immeasurable.
Reading the Bible with care allows us to encounter God in new and transformative ways. It invites us to reflect on our own lives and experiences in light of His revelation. As we meditate on scripture, we begin to see the threads of God’s love and purpose woven throughout history.
Understanding that it is God who reveals Himself changes how we approach our faith. Instead of seeking to prove God's existence through human reasoning alone, we are invited to respond to His invitation for a relationship. Our journey becomes one of discovery, worship, and deepening intimacy with the Creator.
As we read the Bible, let us do so with the expectation that we will encounter the living God, who desires to reveal Himself to us. In this revelation lies the foundation of our faith and the assurance of His presence in our lives. Let us embrace this journey of discovery and allow God’s word to illuminate our path.
I hope this message will help you better see how God is ever-present.
Until Next time!
Stay Blessed always,
Rumishael
