Can You Prove God? The Real Question and it's Simplest Answer

In a world filled with questions and uncertainties, the existence of God often stands at the forefront of our minds. Many seek proof, yearning for tangible evidence to validate their beliefs. Yet, what if the key to understanding God lies not in our ability to prove Him, but in our willingness to seek Him? This blog post delves into the profound truth that God desires to reveal Himself to those who genuinely long for a relationship with Him. As we navigate the complexities of faith and existence, we will explore how our hearts and spirits can connect with the divine, ultimately leading us to a deeper understanding of His presence in our lives. Join us on this journey to discover how God, in His infinite wisdom, has already provided us with the evidence we seek—if only we are open to receiving it.

The Need for Divine Revelation

In Ezekiel 20:9, we see that God reveals Himself to us, yet we cannot prove His existence through mere ideas and thoughts. As Romans 1:20 states, "For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse." We cannot completely prove God's existence unless He reveals Himself to us. He reveals Himself to those who desire to truly know Him, as John 14:21 says, "Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them."

If God desires to be known, He will make Himself known to us. He has done more than enough for us to recognize His existence and His ever-present nature. The world around us serves as powerful evidence of His presence, as Psalm 19:1 declares, "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands."

Relationship Over Proof

God doesn’t care if we prove He exists or not; He only cares about our relationship with Him. He doesn’t need us to prove His existence, because simply looking around reveals that He has already proven it. We won’t even get closer to proving His existence; God has already done that for Himself. What He desires is communion with us. As Psalm 24:1 says, "The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it." What else can we possibly use to prove His existence that is not already His? All that we are, and all that we have is His, He owns it all. This is enough evidence of His existence.

Our primary motivation should be to seek a relationship with Him because when it comes to the question of whether He exists or not, He has already shown and proven that He does. In fact, our own lives are often enough proof of His existence, as James 1:17 reminds us, "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows." This verse highlights that all good things come from Him, reinforcing our belief in His goodness and reliability. By seeking a relationship with Him, we open ourselves to recognizing and appreciating these gifts, which serve as further proof of His existence.

The Importance of Seeking God

However, to truly know God, we must have a sincere desire to draw closer to Him. The beauty and complexity of creation become meaningless if we are not in sync with His spirit. Unless our spirit connects with God’s spirit, we will never fully understand Him or perceive His existence. Only the spirit of God comprehends the things of God, as 1 Corinthians 2:11 says, "For what person knows a person's thoughts except the person's spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God." During creation, God poured out His spirit upon humanity, creating us in His own likeness. This act endowed us with the capacity to know the divine and to be in communion with Him. However, the fall into sin shattered that relationship, leading to our current struggle: despite the overwhelming evidence of God’s existence, many fail to recognize it.

Overcoming Pride and Blindness

Our desire for autonomy drives us to explain God away, and in doing so, we often fall into folly. As the Psalmist writes, "The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God’” (Psalm 14:1). Pride, instilled in us by the devil, blinds us to the truth. The spirit that once brought us true life has left us, leaving us unable to see or witness God's presence in our lives.

Approaching God with Humility

If we genuinely wish to perceive God’s existence, we must approach Him with humility. While we cannot fully comprehend Him, He is closer than we can imagine. As Psalm 139:7-10 says, "Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I ascend to the heaven, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast." Our own efforts cannot explain or prove His existence; only He can reveal Himself to us.

The Priority of Relationship

While we are indeed called to engage in apologetics and defend our faith, it is essential to remember that our primary focus should be on cultivating a lasting relationship with God. Rather than expending excessive energy trying to prove His existence—something He has already accomplished—we should invest our efforts in deepening our connection with Him. Throughout the Bible, God's consistent message is not about defending His existence but about inviting us into a personal, enduring relationship with Him.

God is calling us to draw near, to experience His love and grace firsthand. There is no explicit mandate in Scripture asking us to defend Him; He is fully capable of defending Himself. What He desires most is for us to engage with Him on a personal level.

Our lives can serve as powerful testimonies of His existence to the world. When we walk closely with God, our transformed lives reflect His presence and truth. As we cultivate this relationship, we become living proof of His existence, shining a light in a world that often seeks evidence. Just as Enoch walked faithfully with God until he was no more (Genesis 5:24), we too are invited to walk with Him, allowing our lives to testify to His reality and love.

Let us set aside our egos and allow God to be God. Seek Him, for He can indeed be found.

I hope this post has illuminated what we should seek to understand when it comes to proving whether God exists or not. May His light continue to shine in our hearts, igniting a deep desire to know Him better and cultivate a personal relationship with Him.

Until next time,
Enjoy the learning, and stay blessed always,
Rumishael
